Denver’s director of corrections and undersheriff says he’s going to “vigorously and thoroughly” investigate allegations about widespread cheating on promotions exams for Denver Sheriff’s deputies.
In an anonymous letter from an alleged Denver deputy sheriff mailed to 9News, other media outlets, and Director of Corrections and Undersheriff Gary Wilson, the deputy claims he was given the answers to a two-hour test in a promotions process to become a sergeant.
The letter alleges that a major gave the deputy the answer sheet and instructed him “not to make a 100 percent” on the test. The deputy says he passed those instructions, and the answers, along to three others taking the test. He thinks the answers were given to possibly six deputies in all.
“If the investigation concludes there was a breach of confidentiality, appropriate actions will be taken and this testing process will be deemed invalid and no promotions will be conducted,” Wilson said in a statement to 9News.
Capt. Frank Gale with the Denver Sheriff’s Department says 120 people took the written test. Out of that group, 40 people went on to the next level.
