A Denver child-care provider has pleaded guilty in the death of a 17-month-old boy in her care.

Dammi Seneviratne, 46, pleaded guilty Thursday to child abuse resulting in death, according to the Denver district attorney’s office.

On Nov. 4, Seneviratne was providing child care in her home in the 4300 block of Ceylon Street and 17-month-old Jeremiah Saunders, the son of a Denver police officer, died after being left unattended. Seneviratne is scheduled to be sentenced on July 21.

Under terms of a plea agreement Seneviratne will avoid prison but she faces a period of supervised probation that could include jail time, prosecutors said. The Denver Post
