Saturday’s impending end-of-the-world disaster has kept Colorado Springs-based author Jerry B. Jenkins hopping.

That’s not surprising. The blockbuster “Left Behind” book series that he’s co-authored with Tim LaHaye has been all about dramas surrounding the Rapture and other Final Days intrigue.

The current end-time talk was prompted by the California-based Family Radio Christian network, which has announced that at 6 p.m. Saturday, based on calculations that mark the 7,000 years since Noah’s flood, a killer earthquake will rock the world. Harold Camping, the broadcaster behind this, has put up billboards all over the world to warn people.

None of this sounds at all out of line with what Jenkins and LaHaye have been writing about for the past decade. But Jenkins points out that although he believes what the Bible says about end times, his “Left Behind” books are meant as fiction, and the idea that somebody knows the time and date of Judgement Day is ludicrous.
