The University of Colorado Hospital on the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora is breaking ground on a $400 million expansion today.

The project includes construction of a second 12-story inpatient tower, a three- story patient parking structure, a 1,700-spot employee parking garage and a 39,800-square-foot addition to the Anschutz Cancer Pavilion.

When it is completed in 2013, the project will double the size of the hospital’s emergency department while adding 276 beds and 1,400 full-time jobs.
