It’s a ripple effect: Summer fun spreads this weekend in Boulder with the arrival of the Boulder Creek Festival.

The weekend-long, family-friendly music and fun start tonight with That Eighties Band playing at the 29th Street Mall. But things really kick into gear Saturday: Two food courts, five stages of entertainment, an art show, carnival rides and more, all running through Monday.

One of the festival’s signature events, The Great Rubber Duck Race, starts at 4 p.m. Monday: Sponsor a duck for $5, and cheer it on as it bobs down Boulder Creek. Big winners get sweet prizes like a trip to Mexico or $1,000 cash, and the duck money benefits Boulder Parks & Recreation.

Kickoff concert: 6-9 p.m. today, 1710 29th St., Boulder; Festival: 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday. Canyon Boulevard between Ninth and 14th streets. And, best of all, admission is free. For information, check .
