A 27-year-old man critically injured at a Colorado Rockies game Tuesday at Coors Field was sliding down a railing when he lost control and fell, landing on his head, police said.

The victim, who has not been identified, was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.

“It is a very unfortunate accident,” said Sonny Jackson, a Denver Police Department spokesman.

Witnesses told police investigators that “the victim was attempting to slide down the staircase rail, he lost his balance and fell of the rail and struck his head,” according to Jackson.

The man’s injuries are “very critical,” Jackson said.

The accident happened at about 4:10 p.m. Tuesday in stairwell 12 on the concourse level in the Rockpile section.

The Colorado Rockies Baseball Club today issued a statement about the incident:

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the young man and his family and friends. Unfortunately, at this time we are not able to provide any further details.”
