A Westminster woman locked herself in a bedroom closet with her teenaged son after a stranger kicked in their garage door Friday.
Teresa Middleton had immediately called 9-1-1 on her cell phone, and police arrived and arrested 23-year-old Benjamin Davis Saffell of Boulder after a struggle in the woman’s bedroom.
The residents were unharmed.
In a media release, Westminster police said Saffell appeared to be under the influence of drugs.
He is being held on $20,000 bond in the Adams County Jail and faces numerous charges, including first-degree burglary, menacing, assault on a peace officer, resisting arrest and theft.
Public records indicate Saffell’s only previous run-in police was a drunken-driving conviction in Boulder in 2007, for which he paid fines and served 10 days in jail.
