We were pleased to see Denver mayoral candidate Chris Romer repudiate the dreadful mailers that an independent group has been producing to support his candidacy. “We don’t control advertisements by that independent group,” Romer correctly noted Monday (contrary to what opponent Michael Hancock’s campaign has said regarding at least one mailer). “In some cases it’s been inaccurate. It’s been over the top. And I clearly want them to stop.”
We’d called for Romer to take such action in an editorial released online over the weekend and appearing Tuesday in print. He could have spoken up earlier, but the statement he eventually made was forceful and clear.
