Police said they believe a man who shot himself and eventually died Friday afternoon in Douglas County is the man they were seeking to question in the death of an Aurora woman.

Alan Geisler, 46, had not been named a suspect, but police wanted to talk to him after his common- law wife was found dead Thursday in her home in the 18000 block of East Pacific Place.

Police are investigating the woman’s death as a homicide. Her name has not been released.

Just after 3 p.m. Friday, Douglas County sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a drunken driver after residents saw a truck crash into a Dumpster

Sgt. Ron Hanavan, a spokesman for the Sheriff’s Office, said residents described the truck to officers, who determined it was Geis ler’s 2008 silver Toyota Tacoma.

Just as a deputy arrived on scene about 3:25 p.m., he reported to dispatch that shots had been fired.

“It appears it was a self-inflicted gunshot,” Hanavan said. Geisler died after he was airlifted to a hospital.

Sgt. Cassidee Carlson, spokeswoman for Aurora police, said Friday that the homicide investigation into the woman’s death remains open.

“Unfortunately whatever information he could have provided us, we won’t have anymore,” Carlson said. “But investigators will still work to eliminate any other causes for her death.”
