MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Robert Karlsson shot a 2-under-par 68 on Saturday to remain atop the leaderboard through three rounds of the St. Jude Classic.

Karlsson looked ready to run away from the field, leading by as many as five strokes on the back nine. But the Swede closed with his only bogeys of the day on the final two holes, dropping to 11-under and one stroke ahead of Harrison Frazar (64).

John Merrick (67) is third, followed by Retief Goosen, who had the best 18-hole score this week before being matched by Frazar.

• Top-ranked Yani Tseng shot her second straight 6-under 66 to take a one-stroke lead over Mindy Kim (69) at the LPGA State Farm Classic in Springfield, Ill.

Bob Tway moved a step closer to his first Champions Tour title, firing a 5-under 67 to maintain a one-shot lead after the second round of the Greater Hickory Classic in Conover, N.C.

• Overnight leader Robert Rock stretched his lead to two shots at the Italian Open in Fiano, shooting a second straight 4-under 68 in a bid for his first European Tour title.

Power, Franchitti prevail

FORT WORTH, Texas — IndyCar Series points leader Will Power made a quick evasive move to avoid disaster just before his final pit stop at Texas Motor Speedway and held on for his first victory on an oval track.

Power raced to his third win of the season, and 12th of his career, to wrap up the first doubleheader in major open-wheel racing in 30 years. He kept his points lead over Dario Franchitti, the winner in the opener.

Kurt Busch made it back-to- back Sprint Cup poles, turning a lap of 171.579 mph at Pocono Raceway in advance of today’s race in Long Pond, Pa.

• Championship leader Sebastian Vettel won another Formula 1 pole position with the top qualifying lap at the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal.

Silver Stars remain perfect

SAN ANTONIO — Rookie Danielle Adams scored 32 points as the San Antonio Silver Stars (3-0) remained the WNBA’s only unbeaten team by defeating the Atlanta Dream 86-74.

Sylvia Fowles scored 23 points and Cathrine Kraayeveld added 19 points with a career-high six 3-pointers, and the Chicago Sky held on for a 84-77 win over the host Washington Mystics.

Tamika Catchings scored 18 points and the visiting Indiana Fever scored the last nine points to beat the New York Liberty 86-80.
