ASPEN, Colo.—Federal officials say a $24 million check is in the mail for an Aspen-based transit agency.
The Federal Transit Administration says funding will be granted within two weeks for expansion of the Roaring Fork Transportation Authority’s bus system, which serves several western Colorado communities.
The Aspen Times reports the agency will receive a $24 million grant on top of a $810,000 grant awarded last year for engineering. It will finance new buses, bus stations and high-tech fleet management systems. The authority approved a sale tax increase to raise an additional $21 million.
Colorado Sens. Mark Udall and Mike Bennet and Rep. Jared Polis wrote a letter last month urging release of the funds. Rep. Scott Tipton declined to sign the letter, citing concerns about the growing federal deficit.
