COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—Colorado Springs Mayor Steve Bach’s administration is ordering city employees not to talk to the news media.

Colorado Springs spokesman John Leavitt said a minor change in the media interview policy for city employees actually is more of a reminder of the existing policy, but that wasn’t immediately clear to some people in a city memo distributed Wednesday.

According to the Colorado Springs Gazette, the Bach administration said almost every media request must go through the mayor’s Communications Office for approval.

City employees who talk to the media are now required to log the call and then report it to communications, including routine cop calls.

All media interviews and their topics are then reported to the mayor and City Council.

Bach says he wants continuity in city communications.
