MORRISON, Colo.—A woman has died in a fall on a rock formation near the iconic Red Rocks Amphitheatre west of Denver.

Jefferson County sheriff’s spokesman Mark Techmeyer says the fall happened Friday afternoon on a formation southeast of the amphitheater. A concert planned for Friday evening was not affected.

West Metro Fire spokeswoman Cindy Matthews told KMGH-TV that a 20-year-old woman died after falling about 100 feet. Park events manager Steve Eisenstein says climbing on rock formations in Red Rocks park is illegal and violators are subject to up to a $999 fine.

The woman’s name has not been released.
