AURORA — Aurora police are warning residents to secure their homes at night after a man or teen entered a home early Thursday and attempted to sexually assault a little girl.

The incident happened just before 6 a.m. in northwest Aurora. Police wouldn’t give a more specific address. According to police spokesman Bob Friel, the intruder entered through an open window.

The parents of a sleeping 4-year- old girl heard noises coming from her bedroom. When the parents went to check on her, they found the intruder standing over her bed. He ran away and is still at large. Police describe him as either Hispanic or white, 15 to 19 years old and between 5 feet 5 inches and 5 feet 9 inches tall.

Friel said the intruder may have sexually assaulted the girl.
