Curtis Hubbard, political editor at The Denver Post, has been named editor of the newspaper’s editorial page, overseeing print and online content for the daily editorial and opinion pages and the Sunday Perspective section.
Hubbard, 43, begins his new assignment July 5.
As The Post’s politics editor since January 2007, Hubbard has directed reporters covering federal and state government, Denver City Hall and transportation, as well as the paper’s election coverage.
Hubbard is also responsible for the paper’s politics blog, The Spot.
“As a native Coloradan and an editor who has covered Colorado politics for a long time, Curtis is uniquely qualified to direct the editorial and opinion coverage of The Denver Post,” said The Post’s publisher, William Dean Singleton.
“The Post plays an important role in setting the state’s agenda and bringing its population together to discuss the important issues of our time,” Singleton said. “I look forward to working with Curtis in his new role.”
Hubbard succeeds Dan Haley, who left May 27 to become director of corporate communications for CoBank.
Born in Aspen and raised in Cherry Hills Village, Hubbard has been covering news and politics in the Interior West since 1993.
After stints as an editor at the Jackson Hole Guide in Wyoming and the Boulder Daily Camera, he came to The Post in 2004 as state editor, overseeing the paper’s state bureaus and Denver-based reporters and columnists covering the region and the state.
“The first goal is to keep up the great work and tradition of the editorial page,” Hubbard said. “The second goal is to speed the transition and to thrive in the new media environment.”
Hubbard earned a bachelor’s degree in creative writing from Beloit College in Wisconsin, where he minored in journalism, and is a graduate of Cherry Creek High School. He lives in Louisville with his wife, Katie, and two daughters.
