Connor Martin scored a career-high five goals and Brendan Mundorf had four Saturday night, leading the Denver Outlaws of Major League Lacrosse to an 18-11 victory over the Long Island Lizards before 10,142 fans at Invesco Field at Mile High.
The Outlaws (5-1) remained tied for first place with the Boston Cannons.
Denver had a 2-0 lead over the Lizards (2-4) after just six minutes, thanks to goals from Jarett Park and Mundorf. Long Island’s Stephen Berger cut the Outlaws’ lead to 2-1 when he scored an unassisted goal with 5:23 remaining in the first quarter. The Outlaws responded by scoring eight consecutive goals. They led 10-1 with 7:13 remaining in the first half.
Andrew Hennessey set an Outlaws record by winning 79.3 percent of his faceoffs (23-of-29).
