Given a second chance, British tennis star Andy Murray came through at Wimbledon.
A year after messing up his bow to the queen, who was making her first visit to the tournament in 33 years, Murray was given another chance Monday after he advanced to the quarterfinals with a victory over Richard Gasquet.
Murray’s bow to the queen last year was low with one arm bent behind his back and one in front.
Monday, Prince William and his new bride, Kate, were in attendance. The duke and duchess of Cambridge watched Murray’s match from the front row of the royal box.
And although no one mentioned to Murray the need to bow, he gave one anyway. The result? Majestic, according to The Associated Press.
But there was one issue.
“If I’d known they were coming, I would have shaved,” the British star told reporters, smiling. “I was thinking to myself as I came off, I was sweaty and very hairy. I said to them: ‘I’m sorry. I’m a bit sweaty.’ “
