DENVER—Parents and a Virginia-based group are joining forces to support the Douglas County School District as it defends its voucher program against a lawsuit.
The Institute for Justice and a group of Douglas County parents are announcing plans Tuesday to intervene in the legal challenge on behalf of the school district.
The American Civil Liberties Union of Colorado and two other groups are suing the district, saying the voucher program is unconstitutional because it will use public funds for religious schools. The ACLU also argues the plan would improperly divert public money to private schools.
The Institute for Justice says it has intervened in support of other school voucher programs across the country and the Douglas County program is similar to ones that have survived court challenges.
