A tense time ensued after a Summit County homeowner found a month-old moose trapped in a window well last weekend.
The Breckenridge-area resident heard noises at 2 a.m. Saturday and at first feared it was a bear, the Red, White and Blue Fire District said Tuesday.
At 7:30 a.m., the frightened 75-pound calf was discovered in the 3-foot window well in front of the home.
Rescuers tried to coax it out, but the mini-moose was too frightened, and the board put in the hole was too slick. Eventually, the animal was lifted out by webbing and set free, as its parents and a sibling waited noisily nearby.
“One minute, our firefighters are rescuing people out of an elevator, and the next, they’re outside rescuing a moose calf out of a window well,” said Fire Chief Lori Miller. The Denver Post
