COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—The Pikes Peak humane society is investigating the stabbing death of a German shepherd that was tied to a tree.

Humane society president Jan McHugh-Smith says the dog was stabbed by someone with a large blade.

The humane society told the Colorado Springs Gazette they initially thought wild animals may have played a part in the dog’s death on Saturday, but a necropsy disproved that theory.

The humane society says the dog’s owner is not considered a suspect.
