EGYPT: 25 officials charged in attack on protesters.
An Egyptian prosecutor charged 25 Mubarak-era officials with manslaughter, attempted murder and assault Thursday for their part in organizing a February attack on anti-regime protesters. Those to stand trial include the speakers of parliament’s two chambers, lawmakers from former President Hosni Mubarak’s ruling party, Cabinet ministers and business people.
LIBYA: NATO denies airstrikes aiding rebel advances.
NATO on Thursday denied a Libyan government charge that the alliance is intentionally using its airstrikes to assist rebel advances, saying it is sticking to its mandate to protect civilians.
SYRIA: Roadblocks set up to keep troops out of Hama.
Syrian protesters hurled stones and set roadblocks of burning tires against regime forces trying to enter the opposition stronghold of Hama. Dozens of families fled, fearing a full-scale crackdown.
YEMEN: Saleh assails foes.
Yemen’s president, Ali Abdullah Saleh, who is undergoing medical treatment in Saudi Arabia, lashed out at opponents seeking to drive him from power but made no mention of a possible return to his country. The pre recorded TV address was his first public appearance since he was injured last month in a rocket attack on his residence.
