Local and federal authorities are investigating a possible connection between a fire at a Mexican restaurant in June and alleged Colorado Mills bomber David Lawless, 9News has confirmed.

Denver firefighters responded to a fire at the Urban Sombrero restaurant, 16221 E. 40th Ave., the morning before Lawless allegedly placed three bombs at the mall.

The June 24 fire was deemed suspicious and is being investigated as arson.

Rob Greco, Urban Sombrero’s owner, said he frequently had to “kick out” Lawless from the restaurant, which also has a bar.

Investigators say Lawless, 30, put two bombs at Colorado Mills mall June 25 inside the Borders bookstore and a third device outside the mall near the entrance to Borders.

Lawless also is suspected of damaging the Denver Marriott West hotel the same night.
