Denver’s KMGH and its Call 7 Investigative news team won the Associated Press Television-Radio Association “station of the year” award for 2011.
The reporters “consistently break news involving government ethics, public spending and holding elected officials accountable,” according to the citation by Associated Press news editor Jim Anderson. Competitors are TV and radio stations in 12 Western states.
The AP noted KMGH-Channel 7’s investigations into Pinnacol Assurance and its lavish spending in Pebble Beach, the mistreatment of patients at the Colorado Mental Health Institute in Pueblo and the Denver Police Department beatings caught on camera, as well as a documentary, “Iwo Jima: A Final Tour.”
KMGH, an ABC affiliate, is owned by McGraw-Hill, which recently announced its TV station group is for sale.
