A man who died in a car that crashed through a chain link fence in Colorado Springs died of a gunshot wound.

Luke Puryear, 24, of Colorado Springs, died in the Monday incident and the El Paso County coroner’s office has ruled his death as “accidental.”

A car Puryear was driving crashed through a backyard fence at about 6:10 p.m. in the 5300 block of Bent Bar Road, police said.

When firefighters arrived on the scene Puryear was dead and an officer found a gun in the car.

Investigators determined that a single shot was fired from the weapon and police “do not believe his death was the result of a criminal action,” said Sgt. Steve Noblitt, a police spokesman.

No one else was injured in the incident.

Puryear was alone in the vehicle.
