The Denver Outlaws opened the fourth quarter with three consecutive goals to tie the game at 8-8 with 7:49 remaining, but Rochester got an unassisted goal from Jordan Levine with 2:24 left and held on for a 9-8 lacrosse victory in front of 6,318 fans at Invesco Field at Mile High on Saturday night.
It was the first win of the Major League Lacrosse season for the Rattlers (1-7), who got 19 saves from rookie goalkeeper John Galloway.
Billy Bitter, playing in his first game since June 18, led the Outlaws (5-3) with a pair of goals. Goalkeeper Jesse Schwartzman stopped 13-of-21 shots.
Hawkins lead U.S. title win.
Former University of Colorado quarterback Cody Hawkins accounted for three touchdowns as the U.S. men’s national team won the gold medal Saturday at the IFAF Senior World Championship in Austria, beating Canada 50-7.
Hawkins and DeWayne Lewis, a defensive back from Thomas Jefferson High School who played at Southern Utah and then two seasons in the NFL, were named to the all-tournament team.
Hawkins ran for a 7-yard score to give the U.S. a 23-0 lead and threw a 27-yard pass to Joe Sturdivant on the next possession as the Americans went up 30-0.
Canada got on the scoreboard with 6.8 seconds left in the half, but the U.S. recovered an onside kick at the Canada 38, and Hawkins hit Ricardo Lenhart from there to give the U.S. a 37-7 lead at halftime.
