MINNEAPOLIS — The Twins placed right-hander Scott Baker on the disabled list with an elbow strain Sunday, one day before a big series against division-leading Cleveland.

Baker was scheduled to start the day game of a doubleheader against the Indians today, but manager Ron Gardenhire said after a 4-3 win over the Royals on Sunday that Baker still wasn’t feeling right. The team placed him on the 15-day DL rather than risk a long-term injury.

Footnotes.

Orioles designated hitter Vladimir Guerrero was placed on the 15-day DL with a broken bone in his right hand.

• Mets shortstop Jose Reyes will make a rehabilitation start for Single-A Brooklyn today before he is activated from the disabled list, possibly a day later.

• Red Sox left fielder Carl Crawford will rejoin the team today after being out because of a strained left hamstring.

• The Yankees recalled outfielder Chris Dickerson from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and optioned outfielder Greg Golson to Triple-A.

• Tampa Bay’s Matt Joyce was scratched from the starting lineup against Boston because of a sore right knee.

• The Indians recalled right-hander Jeanmar Gomez from Triple-A Columbus to make Sunday’s start against the Orioles.
