A former college basketball star was arrested early Saturday in Denver on suspicion of drinking and driving.
Jarrius Glenn Jackson, 26, who played basketball for Texas Tech, was arrested on suspicion of DUI and careless driving, according to Denver Police Department records.
Jackson, driving a 2007 Land Rover, was westbound on Colfax when he attempted to turn right and “struck” a Honda Accord that was also heading west, according to a police report. Jackson, who was in the left lane, turned in front of the Honda which was in a right lane.
The accident happened at about 4:50 a.m. in Downtown Denver at the corner of West Colfax Avenue and Court Place.
Police who reponded to the accident took Jackson to a Denver detox center, said Sonny Jackson, a police department spokesman.
After a collegiate career in which he scored 1,544 points, Jackson went undrafted by the NBA in 2007.
He is playing professionally in Europe for an Italian team, Prima Veroli, according to sports websites.
Jackson has no connection to the Denver Nuggets, a team spokesman said.
He should not be confused with Jarious Jackson, 34, a former Denver Broncos quarter back who graduated from the University of Notre Dame and played three seasons with the Denver football club.
