A small kitten that police now believe was abducted before being tossed from a car window and abandoned in Lafayette last week has been reunited with its owner.

According to Lafayette police, a woman recognized the 12-week-old kitten as the one that had gone missing from a litter at her home.

Police said the woman does not know how the kitten got into the car with a driver who was seen July 13 dumping the cat on the side of the road in the 100 block of East Emma Street in downtown Lafayette.

Lafayette police Chief Rick Bashor said Thursday that the woman is cooperating with investigators, who do not believe the owner was involved in abandoning the feline.
