BRECKENRIDGE, Colo.—Breckenridge Ski Resort says that after receiving public feedback, it wants to drop a restaurant from its plans for expanding onto Peak 6.

Breckenridge has proposed adding about 550 acres of skiing, a lift and warming hut on Peak 6 within its existing U.S. Forest Service permit.

Environmentalists contend cutting down trees for ski runs could hurt habitat for lynx and other animals. But the Forest Service says an expansion would help the resort better accommodate the number of visitors it gets each day.

A public comment period on Breckenridge’s plan was to close Monday, but the Forest Service said Thursday it will now accept comments through Aug. 26.

The resort has committed to town and Summit County leaders to limit impacts of an expansion, if its proposal is approved.
