Colorado State volleyball player Danielle Minch added another award to her trophy case after being named the Mountain West female athlete of the year Thursday. BYU basketball standout Jimmer Fredette received the male athlete of the year award.
The MWC created the award in 2010 to honor athletic excellence, but nominees must also be in good academic standing during their season of competition and demonstrate good character and conduct.
Minch, a native of Sterling, was named the conference volleyball player of the year for the second straight year after leading the Rams to their eighth conference regular-season title and 16th straight NCAA tournament appearance. The Colorado Sports Hall of Fame’s also name her the 2010 college female athlete of the year. Minch graduates in December.
