LAWRENCE, Kan.—University of Kansas freshman quarterback Brock Berglund is facing a misdemeanor assault charge after allegedly hitting a man while he was in Colorado.

Douglas County, Colo., authorities say the 18-year-old Berglund was charged on June 24 with third-degree assault after the altercation April 9 during a party in Sedalia, Colo. He is scheduled to appear in court Monday.

Berglund enrolled early at Kansas but left campus in the spring to return to Colorado and missed the Jayhawks’ spring workouts.

On Thursday, Berglund’s lawyer, Kevin McGreevy, told The Wichita Eagle that Berglund denied the allegation and would not speak with the media.

KU coach Turner Gill said in a statement the athletic department was aware of the situation and would let the judicial process play out.
