DENVER—Civil rights activists are holding a rally to seek answers in the death of a man who died after an altercation with authorities at the Denver Zoo.

Zoo officials say 29-year-old Alonzo Ashley was irrational, claimed he was a lion and knocked over trash cans.

The rally is being held Friday at the Denver Zoo.

The incident started Monday when a zoo staffer contacted security to say a man appeared to be passed out near the elephant exhibit.

Police officers called to the zoo said Ashley bit one of them and resisted them.

They say Ashley convulsed and stopped breathing. He died at the hospital.
