BROOMFIELD, Colo.—Wildlife officers have killed a coyote they believe bit a 2-year-old Broomfield boy.
Authorities tell KUSA-TV that the coyote was killed Thursday and will be tested for illness. They are trying to determine what made it attack the boy.
The boy’s father says they were walking on a trail Monday when the attack happened. He says the coyote came out of tall grass and bit the boy on the back and buttocks and took off. The father says he took his son to the hospital where the boy got a rabies vaccination.
State wildlife officials have worked with city officials since a series of clashes between people and coyotes in 2008 and 2009. They have said while coyotes will attack domestic animals, they typically avoid people.
