FORT CARSON, Colo.—Fort Carson’s top commander has been nominated for promotion to a three-star general and will become commander of the Army Combined Arms Center at Fort Leavenworth, Kan.

The Defense Department announced Thursday that Maj Gen. David G. Perkins is in line for promotion to lieutenant general.

Perkins is currently in Iraq, where he is overseeing U.S. forces in the northern part of that country.

He is a 1980 graduate of West Point. He has been commander of Fort Carson and the 4th Infantry Division for two years. His awards include the Silver Star, Bronze Star, Defense Superior Service and Legion of Merit medals.

As commander of the Combined Arms Center, he will oversee schools and training centers including air defense, armor, aviation, infantry and intelligence.

His replacement hasn’t been announced.
