Brock Berglund, the former Valor Christian star, pled not guilty to third-degree assault this morning.

Berglund, who is expected to compete for the starting quarterback job at the University of Kansas as a freshman this fall, is scheduled to have a two-day jury trial, beginning at 8:30 a.m. Dec. 13. There will be a pre-trial conference the day prior.

Third-degree assault is a misdemeanor in Colorado.

Last week, KCTV and the Lawrence Journal World in Kansas reported that the charge stems from an April 9 incident when Berglund, 18, allegedly punched an 18-year-old male who was bothering Berglund’s girlfriend.

Berglund’s lawyer, Kevin McGreevy, answered those reports with a statement Thursday saying the quarterback “adamantly denies the allegation that he committed this misdemeanor assault.”

McGreevy reiterated that in another statement this morning, and added that Berglund plans on returning to Kansas for camp, which begins Aug. 3.

Kansas closes its regular season Nov. 26 against Missouri.
