An Arvada man who escaped a house fire this afternoon suffered smoke inhalation and was taken to a local hospital.
The fire broke out about noon at 88804 W. 78th Place, said Scott Pribble, an Arvada Fire Department spokesman.
When firefighters arrived, fire and smoke was coming out of windows in the single-family, split-level home, Pribble said.
The only person home at the time escaped along with a pet, but he suffered smoke inhalation and was taken to Lutheran Medical Center, Pribble said.
Further details on the man’s injuries were not available.
It took about 30 minutes for 25 firefighters to put out the blaze.
Temperatures in the lower-90s early this afternoon had firefighters concerned about possible complications and injuries.
“Our biggest concern right now is heat exhaustion,” Pribble said. “We’re taking every precaution.”
Firefighters were checked out on scene and none had to be hospitalized for further treatment.
The victim’s dog is being cared for by a neighbor.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
