Three goals, one assist and a drawn penalty — over two games in four days — netted Rapids forward Sanna Nyassi the MLS player of the week award Monday.
Nyassi recorded his first career hat trick Wednesday in the Rapids’ 4-1 rout of the visiting Red Bulls. He entered Colorado’s starting lineup last week after star striker Conor Casey tore an Achilles tendon.
Nyassi scored in the 31st minute against New York after he streaked past three defenders to easily beat Red Bulls goalie Frank Rost.
Buffs’ practices open to public.
First-year Colorado football coach Jon Embree will open the team’s first 18 practices of fall camp to the public, he told the Boulder Daily Camera. The public practices include two scrimmages and they will be at the team’s practice fields. The first open practice is Aug. 4 at 5:30 p.m.; the final session is Aug. 19 at noon. Embree told the Camera that future camps likely will not be open as often, particularly in seasons when the Buffs’ first foe is Colorado State.
Berglund pleads not guilty.
Brock Berglund, a former Valor Christian star who is expected to compete for the starting quarterback job at the University of Kansas as a freshman this fall, entered a not guilty plea to third-degree assault Monday.
Last week, KCTV and the Lawrence Journal World in Kansas reported that the charge stems from an April 9 incident when Berglund, 19, allegedly punched an 18-year-old male who was bothering Berglund’s girlfriend. Third-degree assault is a misdemeanor in Colorado. Berglund’s lawyer, Kevin McGreevy, answered those reports with a statement Thursday saying the quarterback “adamantly denies the allegation that he committed this misdemeanor assault.”
