brought his three-piece “Texas Tone Ranger” tour to the Friday night, playing to a well-attended, enthusiastic crowd. Johnson, a gifted player, started the evening with four acoustic songs, before bringing out his bass player and drummer for the rest of the two set show. Johnson displayed his versatility by wandering through a vast array of rock, blues, jazz, boogie, avant garde and twangy songs. There was a sense of pent-up anticipation for Johnson to play “Cliffs of Dover,” his trademark instrumental that broke him through to listeners outside the guitar playing club, and when he pulled it out, the crowd erupted in an even higher level of appreciation. Those in attendance were clearly passionate fans, and none left disappointed.
