DENVER—Supporters of a vaccine for meningitis are urging the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to add it to the infant immunization schedule.
The Food and Drug Administration has already approved one vaccine and is expected to approve others, but they aren’t on the list.
A recommendation by the CDC is required to ensure that the federal government and insurance companies cover shots for low-income and underserved communities.
Currently, the federal Vaccines for Children Program pays for about 60 percent of all shots given to children in the United States.
