Hairstylists don’t have to look too hard to find a reason to throw a show and a party, but Matthew Morris is taking the occasion of his salon’s fifth anniversary, Aug. 6, to also raise money for his scholarship fund at the Emily Griffith Opportunity School. Morris and his team of 15 stylists will be presenting styles on male and female models. The runway show will feature fashions from Gabriel Conroy’s “Black Forest Immortelle” collection.

“It’s going to be wearable, but we’ll also push it,” says Morris, who started his salon with just two other stylists. The party includes cocktails and a silent auction, as well as the fashion show and a video presentation.

The show is 7-11 p.m. Aug. 6 at the Infinity Park International Ballroom, 4400 E. Kentucky Ave., Glendale. For tickets, $40-$100, and more info, visit .

Here is what Morris has to say about hair.

What has changed in five years?

“With all the blogs, YouTube and reality shows, people are more aware of what we do behind the chair. Like in Oz, the curtain has blown off, and people are more educated about what they want.”

A quick summer fix for women: “With either a tennis dress or an evening gown, I love the look of slicked-back, wet-looking hair tied in a bun. It’s super-chic.”

He suggests using Kerastase’s Aqua Seal leave-in conditioner to hold it in place, and also Elixir Ultime to add shine and moisture.

And what hairstyles look good now?

“For men, it’s longer and disheveled,” as worn by actors like Matthew McConaughey. For women, several looks are trending: “short like Emma Watson; blunt and in fewer layers, to the collarbone, like Jennifer Aniston; or super-long.”
