DENVER—People supporting a lawsuit alleging the state’s current school-funding system fails to provide a thorough and uniform education plan to rally in support of their case on Friday.

The lawsuit seeks more money for K-12 education. The trial begins Monday in Denver District Court.

Gov. John Hickenlooper and Attorney General John Suthers on Thursday took a stand against the legal challenge, arguing that it could cost the state billions of dollars if it loses in court.

This year, the state plans to spend nearly $3 billion on K-12 education. That’s 40 percent of the state’s $7 billion general fund budget.
