Authorities today identified the victim of a fatal shooting in Lakewood.
On July 19, Israel Navas Cortez, 22, was found in an apartment, at 1845 Kendall St., suffering from at least one gunshot wound, the Lakewood Police Department said today in a media release.
He was taken to a local hospital where he died a short time later.
No one else was injured at the scene and it’s unknown if the victim had resided there.
“Obtaining a positive identification on Cortez and notifying relatives, most of whom live outside the country, delayed” the release of his identity, police said.
Investigators are looking for Ivan Gutierrez, 34, as a person of interest in the homicide case.
Gutierrez is a fugitive facing felony warrants on unrelated charges, police said.
