Lance Armstrong was a surprise entry Sunday in Crested Butte for the 63-mile Alpine Odyssey, which was the last qualifier for the Leadville Trail 100 mountain bike race.

Armstrong won the CB event by three seconds, but there’s no official word confirming he will race at Leadville. That race is scheduled for Aug. 13.

Armstrong won the Leadville 100 in 2009 after finishing second in his first try at the race in 2008. He did not compete in the race last year.

Sunday, Armstrong beat Greg Krause of Littleton with a time of 4 hours, 32 minutes, 21 seconds. Crested Butte rider Travis Scheefer was third overall after leading the race for most of the day.
