DENVER—Interstate 25 near 84th Avenue in Thornton will be closed to nighttime traffic through Thursday as crews install bridge girders.

The work is part of a project to replace and widen the 84th Avenue bridge over I-25. The bridge was originally built in 1959 and is rated as poor

The Colorado Department of Transportation says the work will close all lanes of I-25 to nighttime traffic at 84th Avenue starting at 9 p.m. Wednesday, but the highway will reopen by 5:30 a.m. Thursday. The highway will close again at 9 p.m. Thursday and reopen by 5:30 a.m. Friday.

The overall $8 million bridge project is scheduled to be complete by the end of October 2012.
