GOLDEN, Colo.—A Lakewood man accused of fatally striking a tow truck driver with his vehicle was advised Wednesday he faces nine charges including first-degree murder with extreme indifference, driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident.

Zachariah Dobler, 28, also is charged with vehicular homicide while under the influence, reckless driving, violation of bail bond conditions, circumventing an ignition interlock device, first-degree aggravated motor vehicle theft, and violation of a protection order that barred him from drinking alcohol.

He was being held without bond Wednesday.

Police say Dobler was driving a Nissan Rogue that struck Alan Eugene Dilley, 41, of Wheat Ridge around 1:40 a.m. July 31 as Dilley was preparing to tow a car involved in a crash at an Arvada intersection. Dilley was thrown 120 feet and later died. Police arrested Dobler a few blocks away.

Prosecutors allege Dobler drove his vehicle through cones that were set up to direct traffic through the intersection.

Dobler’s lawyer didn’t return a phone message Wednesday seeking comment.

At the time of the fatal accident, Dobler had been released on bail bond in a trespassing case, prosecutors said. Dobler’s record also includes three alcohol-related convictions, police said in an arrest warrant affidavit.
