The San Bernardino County Coroner has released the names of two Marines killed in a fiery crash authorities say was caused by an illegal street race.
Christian S. Mogrovejo, 20, of Twentynine Palms drove a Nissan 350Z about 1:35 a.m. Saturday with Jeffrey S. Kendall, 19, of Weld County in the passenger seat. The two were traveling at high speed on Utah Trail south of Two Mile Road in Twentynine Palms when the vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree bursting into flames.
Emergency personnel responded and when the fire was extinguished, Mogrovejo and Kendall were pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities say Mogrovejo lost control of his car during a street race with a silver car. That car – and its driver – have not yet been found.
