Re: Ask the Trainer cycling column, July 25

A very dangerous practice by too many bikers is stopping on the bike path. A knowledgeable biker will pull off the path upon stopping, so as not to impede other riders approaching them. After all, a bike path is akin to a two-lane street. If bikers have stopped on the path, they are blocking one half of the path, forcing oncoming traffic to take to the oncoming lane and setting up possibly a very dangerous situation.

If they had to stop their auto on a road, wouldn’t you think they would pull off on the shoulder? Of course. Same situation in biking. Bikers need to think and act responsibly.
