U.S. Energy Secretary Ste ven Chu on Wednesday announced more than $175 million in grants over the next three to five years to accelerate the development and deployment of advanced vehicle technologies, including two Colorado projects that will receive funding.

Frederick-based UQM Technologies Inc. will get $3.7 million to develop a non-rare- earth permanent magnet motor architecture. Alliance for Sustainable Energy LLC of Golden will receive $1.5 million to determine how alcohol and other advanced oxygenated fuel components can be integrated into the existing fuel supply.
