A brief cool down is expected in the metro area today as temperatures are expected to peak near 81 degrees – the lowest they have been in almost a month.

Skies will be partly sunny today with a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon, according to the National Weather Service.

The predicted high of 81 degrees could make today the coolest day so far this month and the coolest day since July 12, when temperatures peaked at 81 degrees. That was also the lowest high in the month of July.

The reprieve won’t last long, however, as a high of 92 degrees is expected on Thursday.

There will also be a 10 percent chance for precipitation after noon.
