El Paso County authorities are still looking for Corey Handy, but they have tracked down and impounded his truck and motorcycle in two locations Wednesday night.
Handy, 28, a convicted felon with a violent history, is accused of abducting his 21-year-old girlfriend, who escaped from his car and flagged down a motorist for help near Constitution Avenue and Marksheffel Road about 6 a.m. Wednesday.
Handy allegedly then drove up alongside the car, in two children were also riding, and fired five shots into the passenger’s side door. No one was hit.
At about 8 p.m., El Paso County sheriff’s investigators found Handy’s 1997 Honda in the parking lot of the JCPenny store at Powers Boulevard and Carefree Circle North.
About an hour later, Colorado Springs police found Handy’s Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle at the Woodland Hills Apartments near East Woodmen Road at North Union Boulevard.
“There is no information at this point about why the vehicles were at those locations,” the Sheriff’s Department said in a media release this afternoon.
Authorities said Handy was seen today at about 2:15 p.m. near Powers Boulevard and Fountain Boulevard in another vehicle: a 1997 Dodge pickup that was metallic green with red flakes and had New Mexico plate KKL-513.
Handy is considered armed and dangerous. He has a lengthy arrest record, including serving six months in jail and six months of work release in 2001, after he reached a plea agreement for assault with a deadly weapon in a case in which he was originally charged with first-degree murder.
In May he was charged with reckless endangerment, possession of a gun by a drunk and marijuana possession. He was to be arraigned on the charges in July 19, but failed to appear for the court hearing, according to court records.
In 2003, he pleaded guilty to child abuse and was sentenced to 365 days of work release and 16 months of probation.
Anyone who sees him or knows of his whereabouts can call Detective Ralph Losasso at 719-492-6670.
